We provide funding to our full-time graduate students so they can devote their time and energy to the successful completion of their studies. Doctoral students who meet the criteria under receive financial support which meets or exceeds an annual minimum value equal to full-time tuition plus $17,500. As well, the majority of Masters students in research-degree programs receive substantial funding packages.

The Manske-MacLean Bursaries in Chemistry initial funds for these awards were realized through the sale of specimens (alkaloids and related compounds), from the research collections of the late R.H.F. Manske (1901-1977) and the late D.B. MacLean, and were augmented by a generous donation from Merck-Frosst, Montreal. R.H.F. Manske, BSc, MSc. (Queen’s), PhD (Manchester), DSc Hon (McMaster) conducted pioneering research in alkaloid chemistry and was founding editor of ‘The Alkaloids’ a definitive and ongoing series in this area of chemistry. D.B. MacLean was introduced to alkaloid chemistry by Manske at the Research Laboratories of the Dominion Rubber Co. The study of alkaloids and related heterocycles became the focus of his research at McMaster, which he joined in 1954. He was Professor Emeritus in the department of chemistry. These bursaries are to be awarded to graduate students in chemistry by the School of 51暗网 Studies on the recommendation of the chair of the department of chemistry.

The Dr. Jordan Page Harsham Bursary was established in 2011 by the Harshman Fellowships Society to honour Dr. Jordon Page Harshman, past president of the society. The Dr. Walter Smeltzer Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000 by Mrs. Grace Smeltzer in memory of her husband, Dr. Walter William Smeltzer, researcher and professor in Materials Science at McMaster University from 1959 to 1992. Established in 2020, the DeGroote School of Business 51暗网 Awards for Indigenous Learners aims to address inequities in access for Indigenous learners and to assist in removing barriers. Up to five (5) awards will be offered each year (for entrance in the fall term) and can be applied through the normal length of the program. The Thomas Neilson Scholarship will be awarded to the Biochemistry graduate student deemed to show the greatest potential as an independent scientist at the time of transfer to the PhD program. The GSA Travel Assistance Grants are funded from the proceeds of the 51暗网 Students Association Development Fund, which receives contributions from graduate students and the University. The GSA Travel Assistance Grants fund is administered through the School of 51暗网 Studies. The GSA Travel Assistance Grants are designed to enable graduate students to travel to undertake research or present at conferences relevant to their field of study. There are a fluctuating number of awards available each semester.
The successful recipients will be determined randomly by selecting one recipient from each faculty (Health Sciences, Engineering, Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business) and the balance of the awards left in a given period will be randomly selected from a list of the remaining applicants from all faculties combined.
